I got a birthday package in the mail from my Mom/stepdad/sister the other day, and I cheated and opened up my presents. I got some clothes and some candy, and a card that made me well up. I called my Mom to send my love and appreciation and ended up bawling about how much I missed her. She eventually let me off the phone and I cried and cried into Chelsea's shoulder about how much I missed her and all of PEI.
I'm so happy here, I have a great job, some sweet friends, and a girlfriend I love very much, but you can't live with something your entire life and not miss it. I miss the smell of the ocean, I miss the familiarity, I miss Hunter's and Kareoke, I miss my friends and my dogs and my family. Special days like birthdays, thanksgivings, and Christmas' are just awful. I'm lucky to have a pseudo-surrogate family here that helps a lot, but man do I miss my Mom's hugs, wisdom and homecooked meals, playing crib with Dave, recounting drunken adventures and sharing hot knives with my sister, and rolling around in the field with my dogs. It's also pretty safe to say if you're reading this, I miss you too.

Yesterday I managed to get out for the loyalty & Retention/ Cust Care Christmas party. I smoked some green and slammed a colt 45 before I left. I showed up and was completely floored. The place was jammed, and I couldn't find anyone I was familiar enough to sit down and have drinks with. I managed to find the food table and eat a pile, then ran into Danielle who sits next to me at work and she was loaded, I decided to catch up and did. I ended up playing pool, learning about employees' previous ties to organized crime, dicussed Liberia, the ocean, the new compensation system, and discovered many in the department are fond of lady ganj. I guess it makes sense to employ potheads to deal with the world's angriest people.
When it came time to use the taxi vouchers we were given, we were told the wait might be 2 hours. So I called the lovely Chelsea and she was sweet enough to venture out into the cold Calgary night despite working in the morning to fetch her enibriated boyfriend. Thanks honey...... love you.
